Ghostly goings on are "mounting" at this Orrell restaurant - The Mount on Orrell Road, the family home of Abraham Guest, who is remembered in the name of a local school, has over the years been host to a variety of businesses, from a nightclub to a Berni Inn.
But
last month it was shaken to its foundations when psychic David Williams
announced the ghost of its architect was haunting the restaurant's
Rivington Room.
For function manager Carole Swift, the revelation comes as no surprise.
After
more than 20 years working at the Mount, she has heard more than her
fair share of tales of the supernatural, including her own. Carole
said: "I remember one night I was in the hall, waiting for a lift home
from one of the managers, when I caught a figure out of the corner of
my eye on the stairs. I told her to hurry up but she was still in the
office.
"Another time I was talking to a manager across the
landing when he just ran from where he was standing, shouting someone
had just walked behind him, but there was no-one there.
"It's
not just staff either. I remember, some years ago, a lady bringing her
wedding pictures in to show us a black shadow standing behind her on
the stairs. Other members of staff have heard a little girl running
around the place laughing."
