Are the Ruins in Rome Haunted?

Rome is one of the most historical places on Earth. It used to be the seat of power in the entire world. It is also one of the earliest civilisations. The best part is that some of human creations during those times have survived. If you decide to visit Rome, you will still see some of these places. There are those that look really creepy. They are believed to be haunted. Considering the number of years that these places have been around, there is no question why they could be haunted at this point.

Museum and Crypt of the Capuchins

This is a place where you can find skeletons of over 4,000 monks that have been used as decorations. If this does not scare the hell out of you, nothing will. The worst part is that you won’t even recognise that they were bones from actual human beings. Hipbones for instance became chandeliers while vertebrae became intricate cornices. This place looks innocent at first up until you realise what it really is.

The Museum of Souls in Purgatory

This is yet another creepy museum in Rome. According to believers, this is a place where people can communicate with souls in the purgatory. They are those who are still making the transition between heaven and earth. In this place, you will find prayer books, wooden tables with mysterious signs, charred handprint and many others. Once you step into this museum, you are given a concrete picture of what purgatory looks like.

Castel Sant’ Angelo

Although it looks like a normal museum today, it used to be a papal prison. Even Galileo was imprisoned here before. Countless executions were also made in the place. This includes the decapitation of a 22-year old lady whose ghost is said to be traveling in the area on the 11th of September each year. A stampede also took place here before and it took the lives of over 200 people.

Church of Santa Maria

Back then, murder was considered a sport. The bodies of people who died from the sport were taken out of the river, stacked in the cellar and buried if they remained unclaimed. This is the place where most of those people were buried. Until now, you will see ghoulish images of a cross that was made from skulls.

Doors to Death

St. Peter’s Basilica is one of the most popular sites on Earth. It has 5 Bronze Doors and the Holy Doors are opened during big celebration. There is one lesser-known door, which is called the Door of Death. It is only opened for funeral processions. The door features images of the crucifixion, hanging, martyrdom and other creepy images related to death.
In short, there are tons of places that you can visit when you are in Rome. You might also find some of the best catacombs in Rome if you are into this type of adventure. Just be prepared for a unique experience. You might be totally creeped out with this experience.
